Lennon Butchers, Shettlestone
Lennon Butchers in Shettleston, Glasgow, are a well established, successful business.
Trading for over 18 years, owner Arthur Lennon, decided that it was time to modernise his shop, update the retail area and his refrigeration equipment.
Having worked with Lennon Butchers a number of years ago, we were delighted to embark on this modernisation project with Arthur. There were a number of objectives that Arthur wanted to achieve with the refurbishment which included:
- Maximising his display and retail space in order to expand his product range.
- Creation of a modern, more reliable and more sustainable refrigeration unit.
- Updating the display of his products so it is more eye-catching to create an outstanding shopping experience for his customers.
- Utilise new display cabinets and retail techniques.
- Improve the energy efficiency of his equipment and business.
Planning the refurbishment
We spent a considerable amount of time with Arthur discussing and planning how we would achieve his objectives from the refurbishment. We discussed different options regarding the layout of the shop but concluded that having the same main display courter format and customer flow, was the right decision.
Having agreed this we set about designing and sourcing a refrigerated display counter that fulfilled the brief. We looked at a range of modular fridge displays but eventually settled on a bespoke, state-of-the-art, Italian made refrigeration display.
A first for the UK!
We designed a bespoke display cabinet which was then manufactured by a well established and experienced Italian manufacturer. What made it unique was that it has many hidden benefits.
The exterior top glass shelf is a generous 400mm width and 10 mm thickness (other cabinets are mostly 300mm width and 6mm thickness). This offers additional display surface for jars, pots, sauces & promotional items and the durability to withstand the extra weight. It also allows the counter to have heavier brackets on which to hold LED lights that are more robust and effective than your standard display lighting. When you switch the display lights on the chrome really sparkles, creating a great visual effect for the customer. In addition it features different coloured lights for example red LED lights for the meat and a soft golden coloured light for the pies which is very eye-catching and shows off the product to its best advantage.
We also fitted small handles to the glass so that they didn’t detract from the customer’s view. The result was a beautiful, balanced and well lit display cabinet that allows customers to feast their eyes on the products.
This made-to-measure cabinet enabled us to utilise every inch of space in the shop and provided Arthur with a larger overall display area allowing him to further expand his product range of fresh meat, deli and pies.
With regards to efficiency it was designed to a very high specification including a new energy-efficient digital scroll outdoor condensing unit to operate the whole counter and the fresh meat back wall meat display.
In addition to the centre piece display cabinet, we also supplied and fitted a specialist meat dry ager display cabinet which features a whole new range of gorgeous artisan meat products which are hugely popular with customers. We also took an existing fresh meat back-wall display and updated it with a re-clad stainless steel finish. We did this in the shop thereby avoiding the cost and inconvenience of taking it off site to a workshop.
Finally we fitted new Altro PVC walkway flooring throughout the shop to provide a finish that is tough, hygienic, impermeable & water resistant. It is available in a wide range of colours and does not require any special maintenance.
The Result
The result of this transformation and modernisation project is that Lennon Butchers has been able to expand their product range and their retail display space. We’ve created a new visual shopping experience for their customers that makes the best of their fantastic products. The state-of-the-art display cabinet is more reliable and user friendly than their previous one. We’ve also significantly improved the energy efficiency of their equipment and business.
But don’t just take our word for it, here’s a word from Arthur:
“The feedback we’ve had from our customers is that the shop seems bigger and that they can see all that we have to offer now. We’ve found since the refurbishment that we have seen more customers and our sales have gone up which is fantastic. It shows that it was a great investment.
G-MAK did the refit quicker than I had expected and the standard and quality of their work was outstanding. It’s a big decision to refurbish your shop and invest in a new cabinet because it’s the heart of your shop. It can also be difficult to find the right company to work with and one that cares about what they are delivering and who takes pride in their work. For that reason I would recommend G-MAK all day long.”
